So like i bought this new DVD player last week, but hadnt had time to run it.
I'd also picked up 2 new VCDs, and for some strange reason Disk 1 of both movies wouldnt play, but 2 and 3 play !
So i go back a few days later to the VDO store and he plays it for me on his machine and it plays fine....Bummer ! ( isnt it weird how that always happens ?! )
But he's polite and all, treats me like an imbecile and says "try it one more time, if it still doesnt work, bring it back and i'll replace". So I slink out.
I try again, and its the same problem.
So i go back he replaces it, and i try the newly replaced new ones now. ( did i just say newly replaced new ones now ? ) anyway, same problem.
I'm now convinced its not the VCDs, but the friggin player. So i call back the shop ( sweet old lady proprietor ), and i explain my problem.
She doesnt understand and says : " Ek minute, mein bacche ko de deti hoon ", and puts her shop assistant on.
He asks the the basics, and then asks me if i've had a "demo" yet by the company person. So i let him have it, and with all attitutde i tell him :
" Hum log unpad nahin hain jo DVD player chalane nahin ata. Waise bhi yeh itna hi-tech nahin hain. Mujhe full replacement chahiye ".
Sweet old lady comes back on and tells me to come over.
So i drive half an hour thru rush hour traffic, Begumpet to Bank Street Koti !! Stride into the place, and proudly demonstrate the "problem" ( with the new VCDs which i've carried to prove my point ).
Shop assistant merely presses one button. ONE BUTTON, and it plays fine.
Turns out, its a feature called PBC ( PlayBack Control, which is either set at ON or OFF at the time of recording. If you are in the wrong mode it wont play. )
He again asks me if i need a demo. I mutter something and make understanding sounds.
Sweet old lady smiles at me from across the counter and says :
"Aap kyo takleef li, ghar pe mein admi bhija dethi ".
I pack up, and split, head between my arse, and tail between my legs.
On the drive back home i think about all the kinds of people it takes to make this world.
And i imagine the shop assistant is thinking the same.........
