More Irony

Ironical:

My son who is 9 months old just grew his first tooth ( front lower )

And I just had a tooth extracted ( rear lower )

Commonalites of the experience :

1) We both were cranky

2) Pain was involved

3) His tooth is fresh and new, mine was old and rotten

Shaheen

My daughter began school in PP-I grade last week.

her teacher's name is Shaheen.

Isn't it ironic that Pakistan just test fired a missile named SHAHEEN ?

Same name. One used for a weapon of mass destruction, the other for a kind-hearted pre-primary teacher.

The Schooling Project Closes

General | By Skank | 2005 Trackbacks (0) Comments (5)

Hello peoples

I am happy to announce that my schooling project is now closed, and we have chosen.

We got thru wherever we had applied, but we finally decided on Chaitanya Vidyalaya ( lower tank bund ) .

For better or for worse, we chose. I'd like to believe i made a thorough search and examination of our intention as parents, as well as evaluation of various schools.

So comments and advice are not invited ( except for Congratulatory messages ).

Thanks to whoever posted ( esp Neurotron ) giving advice during the selection stage.

MUCH APPRECIATED !!

For any other parents out there interested in my research can feel free to post, and i'll reply.

Most of the search story should be up on this blog anyway in a few days, just as soon as i compile it.

URGENT Info Required

General | By Skank | 2004 Trackbacks (0) Comments (11)

Hi everyone,

I need information on a school called "Sister Nivedita" located in Ameerpet.

If anyone knows anyone whose kids study there, I'd really appreciate any and all info about the school.

( In terms of quality etc. )

Also, I am listing below some schools, could you guys please post a comment with an overall rating on a scale of 1-10 if you know about the school 1=worst 10=Best :

a) Vidyaranya

b) Chaitanya Vidyalaya

c) Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan

d) Nasr

e) Chirec

f) St Anns secbad

g) Chinmaya Vidyalaya ( Uma nagar Begumpet )

h) Sister Nivedita Ameerpet

i) Jubilee Hills Public School

j) Gitanjali

k) Meridian

I guess my quality parameters would include Values, Extra Curricular, Quality of Products, Fees ( to some extent ) and NOT SO MUCH the stress on "studying and cramming" and we want 100% results kind of attitude.

I would appreciate any and all ( relevant ) feedback, and the best received would be entitled to a chilled beer or whatever works for you !

The Alchemist

General | By Skank | 2004 Trackbacks (0) Comments (3)

There are a few things in life i've regretted immediately after doing it. The most recent one :

I went out this evening and bought myself a copy of The Alchemist by Paulo Coelho.

( I had actually intended to pick up a copy of Sons and Lovers by DH Lawrence. )

This book - The Alchemist is probably in the top 3 shittiest books i've ever read ( including porn ).

And i am so pissed off with myself because i read the whole piece of crap all the while thinking : "it just might get better now", and it never did.

I wasted my whole eve reading this shit, and so here i am venting.

Trouble is, anal-retentive jerk that i am; as soon as i got home from the bookstore i promptly proceeded to write " Self, Hyd, 23Nov04" on the top right of the first page. ( Like i'll ever want to remember this day ).

Which the guys at Odyssey are not going to be happy about, and will most likely not refund my money or give me a swap. ( Unless i rip that page out ).

Damn that MF Paulo Cornholio........

Musically Challenged

So thursday was a Live show on necklace road. Balasubramanium, Hariharan and that other guy who sings fast and out of breath.

I dont understand what the big deal was.

The show started almost an hour late, then our Hyderabadi Hooligans broke the Rs 100 barricade ( plebian enclosure ) to leap into the Rs 300 area ( middle-class ), while the Rs 500 and VIP ( bastards ! i hate the term VIP so fucking bourgeois)

Then an hour later the "public" outside, broke the entry barricade and piled-on for the show. Altogether "Fukkat" !!

By which time two of the talent had already finished their act, and some crazed chick was screaming some third rate Telugu film crap into her mike.

So we upped and left.

Its no wonder all the good ones are held in Bangalore or Bombay.

The DVD Player

General | By Skank | 2004 Trackbacks (0) Comments (3)

So like i bought this new DVD player last week, but hadnt had time to run it.

I'd also picked up 2 new VCDs, and for some strange reason Disk 1 of both movies wouldnt play, but 2 and 3 play !

So i go back a few days later to the VDO store and he plays it for me on his machine and it plays fine....Bummer ! ( isnt it weird how that always happens ?! )

But he's polite and all, treats me like an imbecile and says "try it one more time, if it still doesnt work, bring it back and i'll replace". So I slink out.

I try again, and its the same problem.

So i go back he replaces it, and i try the newly replaced new ones now. ( did i just say newly replaced new ones now ? ) anyway, same problem.

I'm now convinced its not the VCDs, but the friggin player. So i call back the shop ( sweet old lady proprietor ), and i explain my problem.

She doesnt understand and says : " Ek minute, mein bacche ko de deti hoon ", and puts her shop assistant on.

He asks the the basics, and then asks me if i've had a "demo" yet by the company person. So i let him have it, and with all attitutde i tell him :

" Hum log unpad nahin hain jo DVD player chalane nahin ata. Waise bhi yeh itna hi-tech nahin hain. Mujhe full replacement chahiye ".

Sweet old lady comes back on and tells me to come over.

So i drive half an hour thru rush hour traffic, Begumpet to Bank Street Koti !! Stride into the place, and proudly demonstrate the "problem" ( with the new VCDs which i've carried to prove my point ).

Shop assistant merely presses one button. ONE BUTTON, and it plays fine.

Turns out, its a feature called PBC ( PlayBack Control, which is either set at ON or OFF at the time of recording. If you are in the wrong mode it wont play. )

He again asks me if i need a demo. I mutter something and make understanding sounds.

Sweet old lady smiles at me from across the counter and says :

"Aap kyo takleef li, ghar pe mein admi bhija dethi ".

I pack up, and split, head between my arse, and tail between my legs.

On the drive back home i think about all the kinds of people it takes to make this world.

And i imagine the shop assistant is thinking the same.........
